Draco Galaxy Trio
Galaxy trio in Draco
This trio of galaxies in Draco is very interesting because of the different morphologies of the three members. NGC-5985 (far right) is a face-on type SAB spiral, over 200,000 light years in diameter. NGC-5982 (middle) is a type E-3 elliptical galaxy and is over 100,000 light years in diameter. NGC-5981 (far left) is an edge-on type SB spiral galaxy. These three galaxies lie approximately 130 million light years from Earth. They were discovered by Sir William Herschel in 1788.
